I thought about having the firewall start before the network interface came up but for some reason was worried that it might cause problems, though I guess as it is discussed in the reference article it is better. Hmmm&amp;#8230;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I have to admit, I do like my way better than the slicehost presented article. Maybe I should post up the script for those interested in using it.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Hey Kristie,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Your shared accelerators are extremely impressive without a doubt, and OpenSolaris is kind of nifty but basically, Slicehost seemed to meet my needs a little better for what I needed to do. I&amp;#8217;m quite happy with both of you, though Slicehost has edged you out a slight bit. I have to say though that your support team is very good at textdrive though.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You&amp;#8217;ve probably noted that I&amp;#8217;m still on both services. I maintain my textdrive account, though I haven&amp;#8217;t moved to the accelerators, but I think it&amp;#8217;s just a slightly different focus than you guys have.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Also, believe it or not, one of the big reasons for staying with you, the Strongspace drive seems to be going away, so at that point, slicehost or a combo of &lt;span class="caps"&gt;EC2&lt;/span&gt;/S3 is looking more likely over the longer term (and also, keep in mind, that for experimentation, the shared host had a lot of limitations in termsof being able to do things&amp;#8230; so given the option of not doing things or migrating, it made more sense to check out a lot of options).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;thanks for commenting though, I&amp;#8217;m very impressed you are checking out your buzz on sites !&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Posted to: &lt;a href="http://blog.wakatara.com/archives/2008/4/20/back_up_and_running_on_rails/"&gt;Back up and running on Rails with Simplelog&lt;/a&gt;</description>

Those folks that have moved from &lt;span class="caps"&gt;BSD&lt;/span&gt; to the Shared Accelerators have been very happy so I would like to make the offer to you as well.       <description>I use baremetal.com - they are canadian, located in Victoria, and the prices for registering are the lowest I've encountered. They offer solid support and are available by phone... although I've never needed it. Also, they donate a small amount each time you register/renew a domain.

I find their site fairly straightforward to use and their email response if you do run into some navigation issues has always been great.

      <description>Be aware that 802.11 channels overlap +/- 2 channels.  This means that channel 9 overlaps from 7 to 11.  So anybody operating between 5 and 13 (12-13 available if using EU firmware) will interfere with you on channel 9.

This is why people tend to use only channels 1, 6, and 11.  I'd advise you to pick one of those.

      <description>LOL... Yossarian, eh ? How very Joseph Heller of you. And so brave posting semi-anonymously (you know the blog records your IP address and can be traced back, right ?)... Of course, to be expected from your type.

Ah well... definitely been a bit of a rough landing and heartbreakingly some bugs slipped through which have added up to some larger problems for some of our power users. So, definitely some bumps and kinks to work out which it would be hard to miss (search esp.). 

Considering the magnitude of what was trying to be accomplished and the fact we're on a wholly new, modern and solid technical platform and once we get these things ironed out we can start doing some amazing things to address the gap between where the site was and where we'd like it to be and AI's place on the internet (and, in fact, already have started to do so), I wish we'd had more resources for QA testing and dev but ultimately, the team did an amazing job accomplishing what they did with what we had - which was basically a nigh-impossible task.

So, bit of a launch setback, but it's important to keep these things in the frame of the larger, longer perspective. We're going to fix the problems, move the site forward and try to make it the best human rights platform on the planet for creating social change.

As for you, yossarian, I think it's easy to snipe from shadows rather than to help. So, personally, I'd like to thank you for reminding me why this quotation is so important to keep in mind when things aren't always the stellar successes you hope for :
