Mac v. Windows in the workplace - it’s all down to scheduling meetings on Exchange Server

My boss was telling me that my request for an LCD panel to plug my mac laptop into was really not consistent with our Windows standardization.

Now, really, I don’t have a problem working with just my laptop, but he said he would take my windows box on my desktop if that was the way I was going.

Digging deeper though, we realized the only thing we can’t do with the Mac laptop is schedule meetings to our Exchange server (we have the same problem with the Evolution client in Linux too BTW).

So, really I could use Entourage, but prefer Apple’s Mail and iCal as it gives me a better overview. Plus, I access our mail via secure IMAP rather than Exchange’s bizarro MAPI stuff.

Just experitmenting with changing iCal’s mail sending feature to deal with stripping and adding the stuff it needs to force people on Outlook to accept my meetings (and somehow schedule Resources on our calendaring server).

But, it’s sad when you think about it that really, booking meetings is the only thing stopping me from being completely Windows free on my desktop. (though I would love someone to come up with a kick ass ERD design tool for the Mac XERD is ok, but not great, let’s face it.)

But, as if to make my point about how much more efficient I am on the Mac than Windows (and yes, I really think that’s true) my boss’s Outlook crashed just as we were finishing up the conversation… No word of a lie.

I laughed all the way to the coffeepot grab a cup of java… ;-)
