Back in the Day When We All Thought We’d Die
I do so love reading Defective Yeti. While teasing the crap out of the latest Justin Timberlkae/Madonna top of the pops, he’s lampooning the line “We only got 4 minutes to save the world.” and then goes on from there to talk about the days (which sadly I can remember) when we really did think the world was on the edge of destruction.
Seriously, does anyone remember Threads or The Day After ? Seriously, when we really worried the bombs were going to drop one of those days ?
Anyhow, made me think of when I was in Seattle last and I was trying to explain to someone (which I recently did in Turkey again to some poor Russian woman working at the hotel I was staying at) about how it was and how weird I found it that Seattle has a Russian attack submarine tied up on the docks as a kiddie amusement attraction. Do the icicle cruel instruments of the Cold War no longer strike fear into anyone’s hearts ? Where’s the respect ?
Anyhow, DY ties it up with a pretty awesome muxtape that really captures back in the day. Now I just need an Air Supply or Stairway to Heaven final song and it was one of my high school dances.
