China Squeezes PC Makers to install blocking software

This just disgusts me so much I want to spit. The Great Firewall isn’t bad enough they’re going to actually mandate the installation of spying malware on peoples’ machines ?

You know my response, when I think about this, would be like creating anti-malware… Imagine hacking sites you could install a piece of software on that instead of installing bad malware or adware on, actually installed cleaning software to get rid of this crap. Utter deniability as poor Chinese users would just be naturally surfing the web. Hmmm…

OK, perhaps problems with that idea, but anyone got any better ones ? Hacktivists, ahoy ?

The DIY market will be booming when this is enforced, because costom-built PCs are not required to install this blocking software. Given most PCs sold in china are custom-built, this software would not affect a lot of users, so basically this is just another idiotic action the chinese officialss did to prove they actually did their job.

Interesting. I really hadn’t thought of that.

However, I kinda see this as the slippery slope. I simply can’t believe from this move that the independent DIY makers wouldn’t be followed up next. I could see, for example, a simple program where you’re not allowed to buy even DIY PCs that haven’t got some “approval” stamp on them once its been mandated that this software needs to be installed.

Out of curiosity, what would you estimate the proportion of DIY to manufacturer label PCs to be ?

Believe me, the DIY market can always find a way to bypass the law(they are doing it now and will countinue doing so in the future), so no longer how hard the government push the software, there is always a way to get around it in the DIY market.

I think more than 50% of the PC sold in china are from DIY market, because it is much cheaper than branded PC and you can get all sorts of pirated software pre installed such as office, windows, etc. If you go to any electronic shopping mall in china, you would find most of the shops provide DIY service, they can build any PC from extreme high end to budget, and due to the fierce competition, they provide customer service that is almost the same as the branded PC companies.
