The Cincinatti Kid

Well, since my plans for the night got shredded, I figured I'd lick my wounds from the bad beat that bounced me out of the the WSOP qualifier. Watched The Cincinnati Kid.

Steve McQueen is one bad-ass poker playing hombre wanting to make his mark as the up and comer against The Man, the world's best high stakes stud poker player, Lancey Howard (played fantastically by the great Edward G. Robinson).

This is perhaps the quintessential poker film of all time (and kicks Rounders to the curb so don't even try to argue.).

Sometimes fantastic, sometimes pulpy and a bit over-acted, it's got everything you'd want for atmosphere: New Orleans, cockfights, virtuous women, a sultry vixen, an honourable but fallen dealer and a vengeful loser. And that's before you even get to The Man and, well... the other Man, Stevie (and in case you didn't need any other reason, Cab Calloway even has a cameo.).

And directed by Norman Jewison in case you're wondering.
