Banksy on holiday in Palestine

banksy_graffito_separation_wallI am a huge fan of graffiti artist and “art terroristBanksy. Besides recapturing what is, after all, our public and unused spaces from advertising and dereliction for art, free expression and strong, poignant political messages, he’s just doing the most amazing, super cool culture jamming. Thank god someone still is. His manifestos are amazing in and of themselves and you should definitely spend a while strolling his site.

Anyway, the artiste has been on holiday in the Palestinian territories and made some rather strong artistic statements on the Palestinian side of the Israeli separation wall. Check it out over on Protein Feed.

Imagine a city where graffiti wasn’t illegal, a city where everybody could draw wherever they liked. Where every street was awash with a million colours and little phrases. Where standing at a bus stop was never boring. A city that felt like a living breathing thing which belonged to everybody, not just the estate agents and the barons of big business. Imagine a city like that and stop leaning against the wall – it’s wet.

You also have to love the guy for sneaking culture jamming art into the great museums and culture jamming the great pretentiousness that is art itself. His fake rock painting of a prehistoric man pushing a shopping cart that he managed to get into the British Museum itself… Wired has a short bio on him if you’re unfamiliar with his works.

Why ? Because art is a form of truth…(via Cool Hunting)
