Wordpress 1.5. It's Alive !... Alive !!
15 Feb 2005
You know how it is when you've got all that stuff to do and you are desperately looking for something to procrastinate a bit ? Yeah, well, I upgraded to Wordpress 1.5 right away after I wrote saying I couldn't afford the time.
As with the last upgrade, the process was absurdly simple and painless. This time I overwrote the old version because quite a few things have changed (judging from my peek at the files and theme structure), pointed at the upgrade page and voila ! From file upload to the server to working 1.5 upgrade ? 3 minutes flat, no word of a lie. I still can't believe how easy it was.
However, enough things have changed with this major revision that I simple couldn't preserve uploaded files and overwrite the new versions. In particular, changes I'd made to the 1.2.2 index page were mainly cosmetic in origin, so after copying a new theme directory from the new default (luckily, my old theme was based on Kubrick anyhow -- make sure you change the name of the style in the style.css file or it does not show up in the admin backend to select it in the Presentation tab), I made some minor changes to the css file and copied changes from my old index.php file to the sidebar.php and footer.php files respectively. Easy peasy and the Recent Comments plugin I just put in last week works fine.
I'm just looking at what I need to do to add back in the Subscribe to Comments plugin, the incredibly successful Authimage plugin (a CAPTCHA, which has reduced my spam to one trackback spam in the months I've been using it ), and most likely the stats tracking plugin DStats.
Still, overall the whole experience considering the monumental nature of the changes to WP was unbelievably simple. Kudos once again to the Wordpress team for a fantastic blog system.
