Resident Evil : Apocalypse
It’s very strange to me that no one has successfully translated a video game into a film. Especially with the increasing narrative and interwoven nature of game development these days (evil EA has already started talking about branching out), you’d figure that even with the goal oriented nature of most games someone would be able to make a decent transition. The first Resident Evil film was bad, despite the excellent storytelling pedigree of the game series. This one is worse. I’ve never played the second game so I can’t say how faithful this is to the actual game. I’m already assuming such excellent storytelling titles as Half-Life and Halo have already been picked up on option.
And just out of curiosity, why do I seem to be watching so many zombie films with some sort of communicable virus ? Is Hollywood seriously that desperate for new ideas ?
The thing that made this film so strange for me was the fact that Raccoon City makes absolutely no attempt to hide the fact the Raccoon City is Toronto. I actually recognized corners. The space age City Hall is the infamous spaceship in downtown Toronto and our actual city hall. I guess while I was living there, the zombies were just less bitey.
And of course, I was unimpressed when they nuked the city starting at City Hall.
Other than that, the film has little to recommend it other than Milla Jovovich returning as Alice and Sienna Guillory running around and kicking butt. I do love the name The Umbrella Corporation though.
