Hero

Despite my terrible, shameful love of kung fu films, I have to say Hero was one of the most visually stunning films I have ever seen.
I adore the mythic resonance of kung fu tale and this one is exceptional in that regard. Amazing use of colour. Jaw-droppingly beautiful landscapes as backdrops to a really great story with incredible visuals, phenomenally lush settings and fantastic Pei-esque kung fu choreography. Lot of long lens Kurosawa type work which works amazingly with the fight sequences. My only critique would be I wish they had moved off the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon floating wire work, but the artistic vision in this film was strong enough to put it well above that film.
The use of primary colours in specific sequences was unbelievable and the way textures, visuals and nature were woven into the story seriously along with some great action makes this one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen.
Stunning. A must see film for the big screen and it's not often I say that.
